Before we get to Planning 2021, let’s take a quick look back at previous years.

According to global horoscope predictions…

  • 2017 would be a difficult year full of turbulence (check).
  • 2018 a year of rebuilding and gradual progress (maybe).
  • 2019 would bring positive change, offering hope for a joyful and focused year (kinda).
  • 2020 if you held true to your goals, you’d enjoy your destiny (mostly true for me).

This year we’re entering a 20-year phase of tremendous change, but 2021, in particular, might be considered lucky. This year will feature the clash of innovation and tradition, so we’ll need to work hard to maintain our balance.

And if you’re a Pisces, it’s a good year for love, friends, career and intensive psychotherapy!

2021 Vision, Misson and Virtues

In 2018, I focused on being a dynamic businesswoman. but that wasn’t what I really wanted. So in 2019, and again in 2020, I focussed on writing, and I’m starting to reap the rewards. And being as they worked out well, I’m leaving them the same.

Vision

I am a prolific writer, making a good living. I am lean and healthy, happily married, living in a beautiful house, with a tranquil garden.

Mission

Entertain and share my wisdom by writing prolifically, and publishing widely.

Virtues

Like last year, I’m keeping the same virtues, but reprioritising.

BeautyBeauty is about taking care of my physical wellbeing and surroundings and living the authentic me.
FriendshipFriendship demands I trust and treat other beings as well as I want to be treated.
PleasurePleasure is pursuing activities for their own sake; meeting friends, international vacations, relaxing and recharging.
WisdomWisdom is having the capacity for choice; challenging my thinking, living intentionally and courageously acting on my convictions.
WealthWealth is feeling prosperous, having sufficient resources (time or money) to meet my needs and some of my wants.

Planning 2021

But given the ongoing turbulence, I plan to take it all right back to basics. I’m not planning any projects yet, because seeing last year’s receding into the distance has been painful. I’m just going to take it day by day.

So this year, I’ll be keeping it close, and working with priorities:

  1. Husband
  2. Health
  3. Writing

1. Husband

I’d prefer to stay married to my current husband. I recently became aware that some people think this is a weird goal, but this is the man I wanted to spend the rest of my life with, so I don’t want to take him for granted. Or let him feel that way. Assuming he married me for more than my ability to provide clean socks and jocks. So I’ll be attempting to do things he might appreciate every day, like:

  • Cooking his favourite meals.
  • Sharing his concerns.
  • Doing the chores that annoy him the most when they don’t get done.

Though aside from this, I won’t be sharing anything further.

2. Health

Last year was disastrous for my health, and I’ve taken further advice from my medical team, which essentially comes down to eating, exercise and sleeping well. I am one of those people who do well with routines, so I will habituate as much as I can.

  • Walk every morning before breakfast.
  • Prepare healthy lunches at breakfast.
  • Slowly give up meat and sugar.

And as a bonus, taking care of my health will be taking care of my husbands health as well.

3. Writing

Happily, taking care of my husband will give me time to write, and taking care of my health will also take care of my brain, and therefore my creativity. It’s all linked!

I only recently started tracking my word count, but I’ve set the ambitious goal of completing my first million fiction words. I’ve calculated the weekly and monthly counts I need to achieve this. They’re frightening, but if I want to make a good living from my writing, I have to spend the time on it.

  • Write every day.
  • Write first thing in the morning.
  • Finish one thing, then write the next.

Planning 2021

I have no idea where 2021 will end up. Perhaps it will be possible to plan some larger goals as the year gets going.

But taking it a day at a time works well for a lot of people, as long as each day you’re heading somewhere definite. And if I do one thing every day towards my priorities, then at least I’m heading in the right direction.

How’s your 2021 planning coming along?
