May 2017 Progress Report

May 2017 Progress Report

May 2017 Collage

Well, May 2017. What can I say? I think May 2017 may be the month my ball of string unravelled. I woke up heavier, wider, messier and a whole bunch of other -ers with no idea how I got here. And no idea how to get out again. Perhaps I need to think about it sooner than tomorrow.

KeyWord CLARITY
Virtue April May Notes
Beauty: Body

  • Weigh ≤59kg by 5 June 2017 (Discipline).
  • Book all the appropriate 2017 dental, medical and mental appointments, so they take place on schedule.
  • Join a local yoga class and pay for the term up front (Discipline).
🙁
64.7 kg
🙁
65.3 kg
Not only have I not lost any weight, I pulled out my winter clothes to find that I have, in fact, put on a couple of inches as well.

Annoyingly, DB had his annual health check and is in very good health “for a man of his age.

At least my mammogram was clear.

Beauty: Presence

  • Pick a hair style and commit to growing it in (Discipline).
  • Plan 2017 Winter and Summer wardrobes.
🙁  🙁 Ummm. I’m just going to skip this one – Beauty: Body explains it all.

Though I made some suggestions about an Outfit for an Unveiling.

Beauty: Home

  • Develop a plan for decorating and upgrading through 2017.
  • Execute the plan.
  • Complete all tasks required by the plan (Discipline).
🙂 😐 I tidied, I vacuumed. Not that you can tell.
Beauty: Garden

  • Develop a 2017 native plant landscaping plan for privacy.
  • Execute the plan.
  • Complete all tasks required by the plan (Discipline).
🙂  😐 The trees are down, though technically it was June 1 that happened. The yard seems bigger and brighter without them.

It’s interesting to see what remains, and there is some work to be done clearing out some undergrowth before it takes off with the new access to the sun.

Friendship: Friends

  • Book 2017 lunches, coffees and dinners with local friends.
  • Join Writers Victoria and attend meetings at least monthly (Discipline).
  • Join a local chapter of Toastmasters and attend at least monthly (Discipline).
😐  😐 Caught up with a very indulgent Katy for lunch.
Friendship: Creatures

  • Book 2017 vet appointments for the dogs.
  • Develop habitats for native creatures (shared with Garden).
🙂  🙂 Dogs are all good.

Pretty boy is now on a diuretic, so it’s easier for him to breath and he has reverted to puppy-hood again in celebration. Bless!

Friendship: Contribution

  • Develop a sharing program.
  • Where possible purchase from small or local suppliers.
🙁  😐 A long time ago, very a wise person recommended that I dedicate my suffering for the benefit of others. This month, I shared my thoughts about pigeonholing people, managing mental clutter, and jumping to conclusions.

In a disturbing reverse contribution, it appears that a number of my mother’s effects may have been stolen between her death and the initial distribution of her assets.

Pleasure: Adventure

  • Plan and do one new thing each month.
  • Plan an overseas vacation for 2018.
🙁  🙂 Increased the entertainment options with a Stress Free Soup Dinner Party.

And added When Darkness Comes to my growing collection of Haiku.

Pleasure: Recharge

  • Turn the computer off by 9 pm.
  • Read a book each week (Discipline).
🙁  🙁 Yeah, kinda, actually no.
Wisdom: Growth

  • Read a book each week (shared with Recharge).
  • Visit a historically or culturally significant venue or event each month.
🙁  🙁 No reading or visiting, but I suggested that merely existing isn’t that bad a thing.
Wealth: Business Development

  • Select and attend a business-related conference or event – real not virtual.
  • Select and attend a marketing course (real or virtual).
  • Consider buying advertising to market my products and services.
🙁  🙂 Was interviewed by Ahmed Khalifa for his IgniteRock podcast.

Edited 25/3/19: Sadly Ahmed has refocused and shut down the podcast.

Wealth: Income

  • Earn $1,000 a month.
  • Re-develop CV and re-register with employment agencies.
😐  😐 Not only have I still not calculated April, but I haven’t done May either. Certainly not close to $1,000 per month.

But I did get a couple of paid jobs editing other people’s books. And I think my editing business is sufficiently established that I can raise my rates.

Having listed out some of the events for this month, it seems that I am not as unravelled as I thought. Though I’m going to bring my mid-year review forward and try to get back on track.

Reading back through my Productivity Journal, May 2017 has been a month of waiting. Getting prepared for events that were cancelled at the last minute. Endless waiting for phone calls and technicians that breeze in late without an apology. And for some unaccountable reason, a lot of washing! Happily, I have the odd gold star for days where I got a lot done.

How was your May 2017?
