January 2018 Progress Report

January 2018 Progress Report

The psychotic thing we all do is expect that January is going to be better than December simply because we have begun a new year. Which goes part way to explaining why January 2018 doesn’t feel “better” than December 2017. Though it might be that my new virtues haven’t kicked in yet and I’m feeling disoriented. Or both.

Virtue Dec Jan Notes
Wisdom

I learn and grow every day.

🙂 😐 During January 2018 it became apparent that I have become a creature that likes to be alone. When I can’t retreat into my nice quiet shell, I need to seek solitude elsewhere.
Energy: Wellness

I enjoy exercising my lean, healthy 59 kg body several times a week.

I walk more steps each day.

🙁
66.9 kg
🙁
67.2 kg
Put on more weight, but thankfully not a lot. I have a nice level surface to lay my scales once again so I hope I can start taking it off now. And I didn’t progress my step counts either.

I’ve been struggling with fluid retention, probably the result of injudicious eating (too much sodium), but it’s uncomfortable and not being able to get shoes on has been irritating.

Energy: Presence

Plan a more energetic wardrobe

🙁 Blah! I’m sick of shopping and not seeing anything I like. I’ll just have to stop shopping. Can you still buy hobbytex?

Thought about an Outfit to Inspire Action.

Focus: Business Development

Select and attend conference or course or event

  • writing
  • marketing
  • business
😐 I’m really torn between focusing on writing or marketing.

No point marketing when you have nothing to sell, but people won’t know to look if you don’t market them. It feels like a Damoclean dilemma. Or catch-22.

Focus: Product Development

Stick to the schedule

😐 I’m already 6 weeks behind in the writing, but three weeks ahead in packaging.
Focus: Business Income

I am a prolific writer making at least $1,000 per month.

🙂 😐 Unhappily for me, January 2018 culminated in the sale of ONE book, though I received $4.80 back payment. Average monthly sales down to four, and average income down to $13.95.

Excitingly, my books are now available on Google Play, so that’s one more place that you can buy them. They don’t take any old book, so listing there feels like an achievement.

Friendship: Friends

I love meeting new people, and as I am friendly and outgoing, I make friends easily.

🙂 🙂 Managed a few catchups, despite many people being away on vacation. And wrote a Renovation Dinner Party.
Friendship: Contribution

I share my knowledge, time, and money with those who need it.

🙂  🙂 My goodreads giveaway ended, and there are 10 autographed copies on their way to hopefully happy recipients.

Added a Spending Plan for Christmas to the list.

Prosperity: Leisure

I am brave and adventurous not afraid to try new things.

🙂 🙂 This month we tried a Bavarian-themed restaurant. As you would expect there was sausages, sauerkraut and apple strudel. I think we’ll be visiting again.
Prosperity: Household

I live in a beautiful house, with a tranquil garden.

Happy and healthy creatures and find my garden a haven.

🙂 🙂 Almost the entire month was taken over by bathroom renovations, which like every other project (household or otherwise) take longer and cost more than you expect. It is unfortunate that we can’t buy shares in our local hardware chain.

January 2018 marked the beginning of noting things I am grateful for, which to an extent does have a positive impact on what I achieve during the day. But it is almost completely about the bathroom renovation; the shopping, for and work on that, and my frustration about not getting to my book writing. Despite my positive affirmation that “I get stuff done.”

Maybe February will be my new January. How did you go?
