It’s time to start looking at my 2021 Summer Wardrobe Plan. As I write, the sun is shining, and I’m putting on and taking off my fleece. The shops are frantically dispatching end of season catalogues, and soon they’ll be replacing them with new styles for warmer weather.

2020 Recap

We’ll start with a recap of last year’s plan.

At the time, I’d more or less just had a stroke, with the end result of requiring a bunch of black clothes in order to improve my focus by putting my body in the background. And let me tell you, it’s been wonderful!

2021 Summer Wardrobe Plan

And now for a look at this year.

Budget

There’s not much to get, aside from undies. Let’s say $1,000 in case we get out of lockdown and I need a party dress.

Appropriateness

I thought I would’ve grown tired of all the black by now. I haven’t, though DB certainly has. For his sake, I’ve been trying to wear some of my old, more colourful clothing out, but we can’t go far, or do much due to being the most locked down City in the world.

And even when I do, I find it difficult because I’m not comfortable in them anymore.

Sun protection is possibly more important than last year, along with some warm, but not hot outer layers.

With a focus on lightweight fabrics in natural fibres; linen, silk, cotton.

Style

My building blocks: remain the same:

  • Colour: black.
  • Pattern: perhaps trying larger patterns like a single flower or slogan.
  • Silhouette: My favourite is still a 3:2 ratio – long top over a long bottom (e.g. tunic over jeans.
  • Design Line: Semi-fitted.
  • Texture: Light and Smooth.

Wardrobe Review

I’ve picked at my packed clothes, but I’m leaving most of them where they are. So my wardrobe currenlty consists of solid black clothes:

  • 1 pair of jeans that are too big, and one too small
  • I pair of linen pants (fit fine)
  • 2 skirts, one needs altering
  • 5 tops (some need altering)
  • 4 dresses (two house and two street)

Plus a bunch of mostly black track pants, t-shirts and sweaters.

Planned Purchases

Right now I’m good for outside layers, street hats, and shoes.

I need new undies! And I want a proper bra fitting, (fingers crossed the corsetier lasts longer than my Korean restaurant).

It might be nice to find a hat half way between a baseball cap, and straw hat for daily dog walking

And while I don’t have any occaisions on the horizon, I would really love a fancy dinner dress in my wardrobe once more.

Shopping Plan

I’ve lost a little weight with the new dog around, and generally trying to get fitter and healthier for my brain and the transplant so this year I have priorities again!

Priorities

  1. Bras – at least two good ones, and a sports bra say $500
  2. Undies – at least 10, say $150
  3. Hat – say $50
  4. Dressy occasion outfit, say $300

Now I say priorities, but I know I’ll have to set the bra money aside until lockdown ends (this is the point I might start believing in opening up by Christmas) and I can get an appointment with the corsetier.

Get Ready

Obviously I’ve started looking for undies that fit, and given the brand I bought last time doesn’t manufacture that model any more, I’m back to trying on different brands again. So annoying.

And I’ve started looking for hats and fancy dresses too, but I must stay under my budget so I can afford the bras.

How is your 2021 Summer Wardrobe Plan coming along?
